Norman A. Cochrane was born in Moncton, New Brunswick on March 17, 1946. He received the B.Sc. in physics from Mount Allison University (1967) and the M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in physics from Dalhousie University (1969 & 1973) specializing in geophysics. He spent five years in the Department of Physics at Memorial University and two years as a Research Associate in the Faculty of Engineer and Applied Science at Memorial where he was actively involved in the Huntec Seabed Program. His research interests have included instrumentation and analysis techniques for study of low frequency geomagnetic induction phenomena and signal processing of shallow marine seismic data. He is currently a Research Scientist engaged in ocean acoustic studies at the Atlantic Oceanographic Laboratory, Bedford, Institute, Dartmouth, Nova Scotia.
