Pan-Tai Liu received the B.S. degree in electrical engineering from National Taiwan University in 1963 and the Ph.D. degree from the State University of New York at Stony Brook in 1968.

Since then, he has been teaching at the University of Rhode Island, Kingston, where he is currently a Professor of mathematics. He also worked as a consultant to Naval Underwater Systems Center, Newport, RI, from 1976 to 1992. His research interest is in stochastic processing and estimation theory. He is the author or co-author of many technical articles and several books.
