P. C. Ching (S'77, M'80, SM'90) received the B. Eng. (first class honors) and Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineering and electronics from the University of Liverpool, U.K. in 1977 and 1981, respectively.From 1981 to 1982, he worked at the School of Electrical Engineering at the University of Bath, U.K., as a research officer. During 1982-1984, he was a lecturer in the Department of Electronic Engineering at Hong Kong Polytechnic. Since 1984, he has been with the Departmant of Electronic Engineering at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, where he is currently a senior lecturer, He has taught courses in digital signal processing, stochastic processes, speech processing and communications systems. His research interest include adaptive filtering, time delay estimation, speech coding and recognition, and mobile radio communications.
Dr. Ching has served in various positions in the professional institutions and also as member of organizing committees of several international conferences held in Hong Kong. He was the vice-chairman of IEEE TENCON '90, cochairman of ISSIPNN '94, and treasurer of IOOC '95. He is now chairman of the IEEE Hong Kong section.
