Oddbjørn Bergem received the M.Sc. degree from the Norwegian Institute of Technology in 1988 and the Ph.D. degree in the field of multibeam sonar processing from the University of Trondheim, Trondheim, Norway, in 1993.

From 1988 to 1994, he was employed at the Norwegian Defense Research Establishment, Division for Underwater Research, working on different projects related to high-frequency sonar processing. In August 1994, he joined the SACLANT Undersea Research Centre, La Spezia, Italy, where he is currently working as a Senior Scientist and project leader. His research interests include seafloor surface and volume scattering, seafloor classification, and high-frequency sonar processing in shallow water.

Dr. Bergem is a member of the Acoustical Society of America.
