Jean-Noël Decarpigny was born in Cambrai, France, in 1948. He received the engineering degree from the Institut Supérieur d'Electronique du Nord (ISEN) in 1971, a first doctoral degree (Doctorat de Troisième cycle) in solid-state physics from the Université des Sciences et Techniques de Lille in 1973, and the second doctoral degree (Doctorat d'Etat) in acoustics in 1984. His thesis for the latter involved the development of numerical methods for the analysis and design of piezoelectric transducers.He is presently a member of the Managing Board at ISEN, in charge of programs and studies. He is also a Professor of solid-state physics and a Researcher in acoustics at ISEN. He spent two summers as a Visiting Scientist at the Naval Postgraduate School, Monterey, CA, working with Professors Baker and Wilson on transducer analysis and design problems.
Dr. Decarpigny is a Fellow of the Acoustical Society of America, and a member of the French Acoustical Society and French Physical Society. He received the Chavasse Prize from the French Acoustical Society in 1987.
