Edgar O. Bautista received a degree in civil engineering with emphasis in geotechnical engineering from the National University of Colombia in 1985 and the Ph.D. degree in civil engineering and engineering mechanics from Columbia University, New York City, in 1994.
Since then, he has worked at the Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory of Columbia University, where he performed research on the geoacoustic response of marine sediments.
