Chris T. Tindle received the M.Sc. degree in physics from the University of Auckland, Auckland, New Zealand, and the Ph.D. degree in nuclear physics from the University of British Columbia in 1970.
He joined the permanent staff of the Physics Department, University of Auckland, in 1972. His main research interest is underwater acoustics. He is also interested in wind-generated ocean waves and microseisms. He has had three sabbatical leaves, having spent 1978 and 1985 at the Applied Research Laboratories of the University of Texas and 1993 at the Defence Research Establishment Pacific, Victoria, Canada. His acoustics work has included tank experiments on normal modes over a sloping bottom and theoretical work on rays with beam displacement. He is currently working on modeling long-distance range-dependent normal mode propagation.
Dr. Tindle is a Fellow of the Acoustical Society of America and the New Zealand Institute of Physics.
