Wataru Koterayama (M'96) received the M.E. and Ph.D. degrees from Osaka University, Osaka, Japan, in 1969 and 1975, respectively.
He is Professor of the Ocean Engineering Division of the Research Institute for Applied Mechanics and the Interdisciplinary Graduate School of Engineering Sciences, Kyushu University, Kasuga, Japan. He was Chairman of the Ocean Engineering Committee of the Society of Naval Architects of Japan from April 1996 to March 1998 and has studied nonlinear hydrodynamic forces acting on the ocean structure, mooring line dynamics, and dynamics and control of a towed vehicle for ocean measurements for 25 years.
