Lloyd S. Simpson received the B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees from New York University, New York City, in 1948, 1949, and 1955, respectively.In 1950 he joined the Naval Oceanographic Office. He joined NOAA in 1977. His research interests include ocean wave generation and forecasting, directional wave spectra, and air-sea interactions.
