Bernard Hamonic was born in Pontivy, France, in 1958. He received the engineering degree from the Ecole des Hautes Etudes Industrielles (HEI) in 1981, and the doctoral degree in mechanics from the Université des Sciences et Techniques de Lille in 1987. His thesis involved the development of numerical methods for analyzing flextensional transducers.In 1988 he spent a year as a Visiting Scientist at the Naval Postgraduate School, Monterey, CA, working with Professors Baker and Wilson on transducer design problems. He is presently with the CNRS (Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique) and Head of the Acoustics Department at ISEN (Institut Supérieur d'Electronique du Nord, Lille, France), where he is involved in research, working on low-frequency acoustic projectors, and teaching.
Dr. Hamonic is a Member of the French Acoustical Society and the Acoustical Society of America, and is on the executive board of the Forum IPSI (Paris). He received the Thomson-Sintra Prize from the French Acoustical Society in 1989.
