Ramon Romankevicius Costa was born in São Paulo, Brazil in 1956. He received the B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees in electrical engineering from the Federal Engineering School of Itajubá, Brazil, in 1979 and 1982, respectively, and the D.Sc. degree from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in 1990

Currently, he is Associate Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineeriag of COPPE at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. His research interests include adaptive and variable structure control and its applications in computer-controlled systems.
