Yeshu Yuan received the bachelor's degree of engineering from Harbin Institute of Technology (HIT), Harbin, China, in 1978
After graduating, he then worked at HIT. From 1993 to 1994, he was at Leeds University, Leeds, U.K., as a Visiting Scholar, where he dealt with super-resolution theory and its application. He is currently responsible for the research of shipborne high-frequency surface wave radar.
