Alexander N. Gavrilov received the M.S. degree in physics from the Physics Department of the Moscow State University, Russia in 1979, and the Ph.D. degree in acoustics from N. N. Andreyev Acoustics Institute, Moscow, Russia, in 1995.
In 1979, he began working at the N. N. Andreyev Acoustics Institute as a Research Scientist until 1989, and then as a head of the Arctic Acoustics Department until 1996. Since 1996, he has been working as a Senior Research Scientist for P. P. Shirshov Institute of Oceanology, Moscow, Russia, where he is currently managing the project of acoustic thermometry of the Arctic Ocean climate. He has extensive research experience in the field of Arctic acoustics and signal processing.
