Miles G. McPhee received the B.S. degree from Stanford University, Palo Alto, CA, in 1968 (civil engineering) and the Ph.D. degree (geophysical fluid dynamics) from the University of Washington, Seattle, in 1974.He then worked with the AIDJEX project at the University of Washington, spent three years at the U .S. Army Cold Regions Research and Engineering Laboratory, spent one year at the Naval Postgraduate School in the Arctic Chair, then founded his own research company in 1983. He has participated in several Arctic ice station experiments, starting with the 1972 AIDJEX Pilot Study as a graduate student, most recently in the CEAREX 1988 drift. He served as the U.S. Coordinator and Deputy Chief Scientist for the MIZEX East projects in 1983-1984.
Dr. McPhee belongs to the American Geophysical Society, the Marine Technology Society, and the Oceanography Society.
