Jong-Hwan Yoon received the M.E. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Tokyo, Tokyo, Japan, in 1974 and 1978, respectively.
He is Professor of the Numerical Calculation Division of the Dynamics Simulations Research Center of the Research Institute for Applied Mechanics and the Interdisciplinary Graduate School of Engineering Sciences, Kyushu University, Kasuga, Japan. He has studied circulation of the Japan Sea, the Kuroshio large meander, and seasonal variations in the Pacific Ocean using numerical models for 25 years. For the past five years, he has been a leading member of an international cooperative study (CREAMS) on the Japan Sea circulation.
