Gerard Tango (M'81) received the BS degree in physics from Cornell University, Ithaca, NY, and the MS degree in applied physics-geophysics from the University of New Orleans, New Orleans, LA, 1985.In 1980 he joined Geophysical Services, Inc., New Orleans, and was later assigned to GSI-ARAMCO in seismic special projects. After work with STS-Schlumberger in borehole seismics, from 1983-1987 he was a Research Physicist-Geophysicist with the Numerical Modeling & Seafloor Geoscience Divisions of the Naval Ocean Research & Development Activity (NORDA), Bay St. Louis, MS, where he was active in applications development of fast field and reflectivity methods for modeling low-frequency seismic-acoustic propagation. Currently, he is Senior Scientist for seismology and infrasonic acoustics with Marine Acoustics Inc., Arlington, VA. His research interests include VLF and Arctic seismo-acoustics, resonance and tau-p seismic inversion methods, vertical seismic profiling, shallow water ambient noise and near-surface geology, and validation/applications of numerical propagation models. He has authored or coauthored papers concerning applications of fast field, reflectivity, and T-matrix and other modeling methods as well as studies of shallow sediment and finite-array effects in ocean acoustic ambient noise and exploration seismology.
Mr. Tango is an active member of the SEG, SSA, IEE, and Sigma Xi.
