Gerald H. F. Gardner received the B.A. and M.A. degrees from Trinity College, Dublin, Ireland, the M.Sc. degree from Carnegie-Mellon University, Pittsburgh, PA, in 1949, and the Ph.D. degree from Princeton University, Princeton, NJ, in 1953.He worked for Gulf Research and Development Company from 1956 until 1980, first in reservoir production research and then in seismic exploration research, with an interlude of three years with Gulf Racing Company. Since 1980 he has been Professor of Electrical Engineering at the University of Houston and Director of the Allied Geophysical Laboratories. One of the six AGL Laboratories is the Seismic Acoustics Laboratory which is supported by a consortium of industrial companies.
Dr. Gardner has been an active member of the Society of Exploration Geophysicists, serving as Distinguished Lecturer in 1980 and Editor in 1982-1983, and is also a member of American Mathematical Association and of the European Association of Exploration Geophysicists.
