Arne Løvik was born in Bergen, Norway, in 1948. He received the M.Sc. degree and the Ph.D. degree in physical electronics from the University of Trondheim, Norway, in 1972 and 1980, respectively.

He has worked with underwater acoustic systems from 1972 within industry, applied research institutions, and universities. His present position is Head of the Minecounter Measures Group at the SACLANT Undersea Research Centre, La Spezia, Italy. His main areas of interest have been nonlinear acoustics, particularly the parametric array, fisheries acoustics, and high-resolution shallow seismic systems.
