Ioseba Tena Ruiz was born in La Laguna, Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Spain. He received the degree in electrical and electronic engineering fro Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh, U.K., in 1996. He is currently working toward the Ph.D. degree at the same university.

He is currently a Research Associate at Heriot-Watt University. His research interests are in sonar image processing, sonar image classification, terrain-based navigation for unmanned underwater vehicles and obstacle avoidance.
