Desmond Power was born in North River, Newfoundland, Canada, on March 1, 1967. He received the B.Eng. and M.Eng. degrees in electrical engineering from Memorial University of Newfoundland, St. John's, NF, in 1991 ant 1993, respectively.His undergraduate research dealt with analysis of bearingless motors while his graduate research was on electromagnetic and acoustic scattering. Currently, is also working as a research engineer with the remote sensing group of the Centre for Cold Oceans Resources Engineering (C-CORE). His current projects include development of an over-the-horizon HF ground wave radar system. He is also involved in industrially related microgravity research with C-CORE.
