James R. Barnum (S'66-M'70-SM'86) was born in Palo Alto, CA, on February 19, 1944. He received the B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineering from Stanford University, Stanford, CA, in 1965, 1967, and 1970, respectively.Since 1970 he has been employed by SRI International, Menlo Park, CA, in the Remote Measurements Laboratory, and currently holds the position of Staff Scientist. He serves principally in coordinating projects using HF over-the-horizon radar for a variety of applications that include ocean, sky, and land surveillance. His fields of interest include ionospheric radio propagation, HF backscatter from sea and land, antenna theory and practice, radar system design, automatic detection and tracking, and radar signal processing and display.
Dr. Barnum is a member of Phi Beta Kappa and Tau Beta Pi.
