Sokratis K. Katsikas (S'84-M'84-A'87) was born in Athens, Greece, in 1960. He received the Dip. Eng. degree in electrical engineering from the University of Patras, Greece, in 1982, the M.D. degree in electrical and computer engineering from the University o Massachusetts at Amherst, Amherst, in 1984, and the Ph.D. degree in computer engineering from the University of Patras in 1987.
He has held teaching and research positions with the University of Massachusetts at Amherts, the University of Patras, the Computer Technology Institute, Patras, Greece, the University of La Verne Athens Campus, the Office of Naval Research, the Hellenic Navy, and the Technological Education Institute of Athens. In 1990, he joined the Department of Mathematics, University of the Aegean, Karlovassi, Greece. He is now Professor of Informatics, Vice-Rector for Finances and Development, and Head of the Department of Information and Communication Systems. He has been involved with many CEC-funded R&D projects in the areas of cmputer security, robotics, and artifical intellience. He has authored or co-authored more than 80 technical papers and conference presentations in his areas of research interests, which include information and communication systems security, estimation theory, adaptive control, and artifical intelligence. He has served on steering, program, and organizing committees of international conferences on informations and is a reviewer for several technical journals.
Dr. Katsikas is a member of ACM, the New York Academy of Sciences, the Greek Computer Society, the Technical Chamber of Greece, WG4 (Security and Privacy) of the International Medical Informatics Association, of WG6 (Security) of TC251 (Medical Informatics) of the Committe Europeenne de Normalisation, of WG on Legal and Security Issues of CEPIS, and is the Chairman of IFIP WG11.4 (Network SEcurity) and the Greek delegate to IFIP's General Assembly.
