Bernard E. Howard (M'72) received the B.S. degree from M.I.T. in 1944, the M.S. degree from the University of Illinois in 1947, and the Ph.D. degree in mathematics from the University of Illinois in 1951.He is currently Professor of mathematics and computer science, University of Miami, Coral Gables, FL. His prior experience includes serving as a staff member of the M.I.T. Radiation Laboratory (he worked with Dr. Howard Aiken of Harvard on the first problem solved by the world's first digital computer, the Mark 1), and at Illinois he participated in the design of the Illiac I. He has twice (1981-1982) been an ASEE/ONR Fellow at the Naval Underwater Systems Center in New London, CT, and he served for three years as co-investigator in the Positron Emission Tomography Center, UM Neurology Department and Mt. Sinai Medical Center. He was also a Visiting Fellow at Dartmouth College.
Dr. Howard is a member of the American Mathematical Society, the American Physical Society, the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics, and the Association for Computing Machinery. He is also a member of Phi Kappa Phi, Sigma Xi, and Pi Mu Epsilon, and is listed in Who's Who in the World.
