Said E. El-Khamy (S'69-M'71-SM'82) was born in Sharkia, Egypt, on April 13, 1944. He received the B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees from Alexandria University, Alexandria, Egypt, in electrical engineering in 1965 and 1967, respectively, and the Ph.D. degree from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, in 1971.He was a Teaching Assistant on the Faculty of Engineering of Alexandria University from 1965 to 1968 and a Research Assistant from 1969 to 1971, and was a Postdoctoral Research Assistant from 1971 to 1972 with the Wave Propagation Group of the University of Massachusetts. In 1972 he was appointed as a Lecturer in the Department of Electrical Engineering, Alexandria University, where he is now a Professor. He taught at the Military Technical College, Baghdad, Iraq, from 1975 to 1979, and at the College of Engineering, King Abdulaziz University, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, from 1983 to 1989. His research interests are in wave propagation and communications.
Dr. El-Khamy has received a number of national and international research prizes and awards, including the Alexandria University Research Encouragement Award for I979, Egypt's National Research Encouragement Award for 1980, the R. W. P. King Best Paper Award of the IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society for 1980, and A. Schumann Jordan's Award for the Encouragement of Research for 1982. He is a member of Tau Beta Pi, Eta Kappa Nu, and Egypt's National Radio Science Committee.
