Dimitri Alexandrou (M'85) was born in Thessaloniki, Greece. He received the B.S.E.E. and M.S. degrees from the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana, in 1976 and 1978, respectively, and the Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering/applied ocean science from the University of California, San Diego, La Jolla, CA, in 1985.From 1978 to 1980, he was a member of the Technical Staff at Bell Telephone Laboratories, Naperville, IL. From 1985 to 1986, he was a Postgraduate Research Engineer with the Scripps Institution of Oceanography, University of California, San Diego. Since 1987, he has been with Duke University, Durham, NC, where he is currently an Associate Professor of Electrical Engineering. His present research interests are in the areas of digital signal processing, ocean acoustics, and sonar system design.
