David G. Mountain was born in San Francisco, CA, on March 8, 1948. He received the B.S. degree in physics from Brown University, Providence, RI, in 1970 and the Ph.D. degree in physical oceanography from the University of Washington, Seattle, in 1974.
From 1975 to 1980, he was an Oceanographer for the U.S. Coast Guard, working with the International Ice Patrol on studies of the Labrador Current and modeling the drift of icebergs in the region of the Grand Banks. Since 1981, he has been with the Northeast Fisheries Science Center (NOAA/NMFS) in Woods Hole, MA. His research has focused on the effects of the physical environment on the reproductive success of the fish stocks on the northeast continental shelf. He is currently the Deputy Chief for the Environmental Processes Division.
Dr. Mountain is a member of the American Geophysical Union and is a member of the U.S. GLOBEC Scientific Steering Committee.
