Richard W. Smith received the M.S. in naval architecture and marine engineering from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, MI, in 1982.

In 1982 he joined the staff of-the Hydromechanics Branch at the Naval Coastal Systems Center (NCSC), Panama City, FL. Over the last two years his work at NCSC has been in the areas of rigid body and free surface dynamics, bubble flows, and underwater vehicle hydrodynamics. He has published one paper and authored three NCSC reports related to marine hydrodynamics.
