Lester R. LeBlanc received the Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from the University of Rhode Island, Providence, in 1966.
Later in 1966, he joined Raytheon Submarine Signal Division as Principal Engineer where he did research and development in underwater acoustic signal processing. In 1971, he joined the Faculty of Ocean Engineering at the University of Rhode Island as Assistant Professor and was promoted to Full Professor in 1980. In 1990, he joined the Faculty of Ocean Engineering at Florida Atlantic University (FAU), Boca Raton, at the rank of Full Professor. He is the co-inventor of the Wave-Track Directional Wave Measurement Buoy manufactured by Endeco, Inc,. and the Chirp Sonar manufactured by EdgeTech, Inc. His research activities at FAU are currently focused on sonar imaging of the seafloor and the subbottom seafloor, and underwater acoustic communication.
