Richard B. Evans was born in New York City on November 7, 1943. He received the B.A. degree in mathematics/chemistry in 1965 from Catawba College, Salisbury, NC. He earned the Ph.D. degree in mathematics in 1972 from Clemson University, Clemson, SC.From 1972 to 1977, he was an Assistant Professor of Mathematics at the University of New Orleans, New Orleans, LA. His research interest were functional differential equations and biomathematics. The ensuing nine years were devoted to supporting the Naval Ocean Research and Development Activity, Stennis Space Center, MS. From 1977 to 1979, he worked for Computer Sciences Corp, doing computational fluid dynamics for the Polar Oceanography Branch. From 1979 to 1986, he supported the Acoustical Simulation Branch, first as an on-site representative for ODSI Defense Systems, Inc., and subsequently as a civilian employee of the Navy. In 1986, he relocated to North Stonington, CT, with Syntek Engineering & Computer Systems, Inc., in support of the Naval Underwater Systems Center, New London. Since 1989, he has been employed by Science Applications International, Corp., New London, working in underwater acoustics and partial differential equations under contract to ARPA and the Navy.
He is a Fellow of the Acoustical Society of America and a member of the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics.
