David J. Thomson was born in Victoria, B.C., Canada, on June 25, 1944. He received the B.Sc. degree in mathematics and physics in 1966, and the Ph.D. degree in geophysics in 1972, both from the University of Victoria, Victoria, B.C. During 1972-1974 he was a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Victoria and the University of Alberta, Edmonton, Canada. His graduate and postgraduate work was in the field of electromagnetic induction in nonuniform conductors.In 1974 he joined the Ocean Acoustics Group at the Defence Research Establishment Pacific in Victoria, B.C. Since that time, he has worked on developing the modeling capability for predicting the propagation of low frequency sound in realistic ocean environments. At present, he is an Exchange Scientist at the Naval Underwater Systems Center in New London, CT.
Dr. Thomson is a member of the Canadian Association of Physicists.
