Hideto Mitome, Toshio Koda, Shuji Shibata; An acoustic positioning system using demodulated signals of an FM ultrasonic wave, IEEE J. Oceanic Eng., vol. 10, pp. 316 - 323, July 1985.

Toshio Koda was born in Osaka, Japan, on July 23, 1944. He received the B.S., M.S., and D.S. degrees in physics from Osaka University, Japan, in 1967, 1969, and 1974, respectively.

He is presently a Senior Researcher in the Mechanical Engineering Laboratory, Agency of Industrial Science and Technology, Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI), Tsukuba, Japan. He was engaged in studying an underwater ultrasonic imaging. Since 1978 he has been developing an underwater FM ultrasonic homing system which is a part of the national research and development program "Subsea Oil Production System." His primary interest is in fundamentals of the beam-excited ultrasonics.
