LaVerne E. Horsley received the B.S. degree in physics from Central Michigan University, Mount Pleasant, MI, in 1974, and the M.S. degree in physical oceanography from the Florida Institute of Technology, Melbourne, FL, in 1980.From 1977 to 1980 he was a Research Physicist in the Materials Section of the Sonar Transducer Branch at the Naval Research Laboratory, Orlando, FL. He was a Physical Oceanographer at the Naval Oceanographic Office, National Space Technology Laboratories, MS, from 1980 to 1983, specializing in airborne antisubmarine warfare. Since 1983 he has been a Research Physicist in the Ocean Acoustics Division of the Naval Ocean Research and Development Activity, Stennis Space Center, MS, where he works in environmental acoustics from aircraft and in the Arctic.
