Svein Vagle received the B.Sc. degree in physics from the University of Bath, U.K., in 1983 and the Ph.D. degree in physics from the University of Victoria, BC, Canada, in 1989.
After receiving the Ph.D. degree, he worked as a Research Associate at the University of Victoria and then as a Research Scientist at IBM's Bergen Scientific Centre, Bergen, Norway. He is currently a Research Scientist with the Acoustical Oceanography Research Group at the Institute of Ocean Sciences, Sydney, BC, Canada. His research interests are in upper ocean physics, surf-zone processes, ambient sound, and the development of high-frequency acoustical tools to probe the upper ocean.
