Mark R. Loewen received the B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees in civil engineering from the University of Alberta, Edmonton, AB, Canada, in 1984 and 1985, respectively, and the Ph.D. degree in oceanographic engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, Cambridge, MA, in 1992.
He joined the faculty in the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering at the University of Toronto, Toronto, ON, Canada, in 1992 and is currently an Associate Professor. His research interests include the hydrodynamics of pulp suspensions, acoustical oceanography, air-sea interactions, pollutant transport, oceanographic remote sensing, and surface wave breaking.
