Phil P. M. van der Zalm was born in Naaldwijk, The Netherlands, on April 14, 1940. He received the M.Sc. degree in electrical engineering in 1963 from the Delft University of Technology, Delft.In 1962 he joined the Signal Processing Group of the Physics and Electronics Laboratory of the Netherlands Organization for Applied Scientific Research in The Hague, The Netherlands. His primary research interests have been in the field of passive and active sonar systems. He worked on signal processing techniques in dedicated hardware and general purpose computers. Presently, he is Head of the Information and Communication Group of the Technical Development Division.
Mr. van der Zalm is member of the Board of the Netherlands Electronics and Radio Society (NERG).
