Michael A. Lawlor was born in Durham, U.K., in 1968. He received the M.Eng. degree in microelectronics and software engineering in 1990 and the Ph.D. degree in 1997 from the University of Newcastle upon Tyne, Newcastle Upon Tyne, U.K.
From 1990, he was employed as a Research Associate, then Senior Research Associate, at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne. Working on real-time processing of synthetic aperture sonar, his principal research interests were real-time, parallel processing, and bathymetry. He now works on billing system software for British Telecommunications plc., Newcastle, U.K.
Dr. Lawlor is an Associate Member of the Institution of Electrical Engineers.
