Shahriar Negahdaripour (S'86-M'86) received the B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in mechanical engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge, in 1979, 1980, and 1987, respectively. From 1979 to 1982 he was a Research Assistant at the MIT Electrical Engineering Power Systems Laboratory (EPSEL), where he worked on problems in control system design for power plant applications. In 1983 he became a Research Assistant at the MIT Artificial Intelligence Laboratory, working on problems related to motion vision. In January 1987 he joined the Faculty of the Electrical Engineering Department at the University of Hawaii, Honolulu, as an Assistant Professor. His current area of research interest is in machine vision for robotic applications; in particular, problems related to motion and navigation. He has published various conference and journal papers on these topics.
In addition to chairing several IEEE conferences in Robotics and Computer Vision in the past, Dr. Negahdaripour is the General Chairman of the IEEE Computer Society Conference on Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition to be held in Hawaii in June 1991.
