Shuji Shibata

Shuji Shibata was born in Toyohashi, Japan, on October 2, 1929.

He began his professional career in 1947 at the Government Mechanical Laboratory, Tokyo, Japan. Since 1964 his work has been in research associated with ultrasonics. From 1971 to 1977 he was engaged in the underwater ultrasonic imaging. He has been involved with the development of the underwater ultrasonic homing system since 1978. He is presently a Senior Researcher of the Mechanical Engineering Laboratory, Agency of Industrial Science and Technology, Ministry of International Trade and Industry, Tsukuba, Japan.

Mr. Shibata was awarded the J.S.M.E. prize for 1970 from the Japan Society of Mechanical Engineers for his work on "Measurement of Gas Temperature by Use of Ultrasonic Waves."
