Joseph C. Hassab was born in Jounieh, Lebanon, on January 1, 1941. He received the B.S. degrees in electrical engineering and in civil engineering, the M.S. degree in electrical engineering, and the Ph.D. degree from Drexel University, Philadelphia, PA, in 1966, 1967, 1968, and 1970, respectively.From 1970 to 1971, he was an Assistant Professor of physics at LaSalle College, Philadelphia, PA. In 1971, he joined the Naval Underwater Systems Center, Newport, RI. While at NUSC, he has conducted research and consulting resulting in approximately one hundred journal publications in the varied aspects of signal processing, target motion analysis, scattering, wave propagation, channel modeling, and numerical analysis. He has been, respectively, the Head of the Advanced Systems Analysis and Assessment Division, the Advanced Development Division, the Advanced Systems Division, Acting Départment Head, and Chief Engineer. Presently, he heads the Systems Architecture and Targeting Division. Since 1973, he has been an Adjunct Professor at Roger Williams College, Bristol, RI, and since 1979 at Southeastern Massachusetts University, North Dartmouth, MA, teaching courses on radar, sonar, speech and seismic signal processing, electromagnetics, engineering instrumentation, digital signal processing, and control systems.
Dr. Hassab is a member of Eta Kappa Nu, Phi Kappa Phi, Tau Beta Pi, Pi Mu Epsilon, Sigma Pi Sigma, and Chi Epsilon. He is listed in the 1976 edition of Who's Who in the United States, In 1979, he chaired the Office of Naval Research Conference on Time Delay Estimation and Applications and has been Session Chairman at several IEEE and NATO conferences.
