H. Peter Klein was born in Germany on March 31, 1944, and emigrated to Canada in October 1949. He received the Diploma in electronic technology from the Manitoba Institute of Technology, Man., Canada, in 1965, and the B.A. (Hons.) in mathematics from the University of Ottawa, Ottawa, Ont., Canada, in 1978.In 1965 he joined the staff of the National Research Council of Canada as a Technical Officer and where he has participated in development and testing of various in situ and laboratory oceanographic and meteorological instruments and in the studies of the electrical properties of seawater.
