Giinter Niemeyer was born in Cologne,WestGermany,in1966.He receivedthe B.S. degreeinphysicsfromtheRheinischWestfalische Technische Hochschule Aachen in West Germany in 1986, and the M.S. degreefromtheDepartment of AeronauticsandAstronautics of the MassachusettsInstitute of Technology(MIT)in1990. Heiscurrently completing the Ph.D.degreeintheNonlinearSystemsLaboratoryat MIT. His research interests include adaptive control, robotics, and their application to tcleoperation systems.
