James A. Helbig received the B.Sc. degree in chemistry from Alma College and the M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in physical oceanography from the University of British Columbia.Since 1988 he has been working at the Northwest Atlantic Fisheries Centre in St. John's, Newfoundland, where he is applying radar and satellite remote sensing techniques to fisheries' oceanographic problems.
