Luo Jiuru was born in Nanchang County, Jiangxi Province, China in September 1935. In 1961 she graduated from Changchun Geology College, Changchun, Jilin Province, China, where she majored in instrument designing and manufacturing.From 1961 to 1963 she was a Research Engineer at Changchun Geology College. From 1964 to 1972 she was a Research Engineer at Beijing Geological Instrument Factory. Since 1972 she has been a Research Engineer at the Institute of Ocean Technology, National Bureau of Oceanography, Tianjin, China. She has been engaged in the design of a number of instruments, including an airborne Proton magnetometer, an airborne optically pumped magnetometer, a 1000-m STD system, a laboratory salinometer, and a low-salinity salinometer. In 1983 she was involved with the development of the Model JDC 1-1 Precision Conductivity Ratio Measurement System.
