David M. Farmer graduated from McGill and the University of British Columbia, Canada.
He is an oceanographer with research interests in upper ocean physics, coastal studies, and acoustical oceanography. He has worked at the Pacific Environment Institute and the Insitute of Ocean Sciences, Sydney, BC, Canada, studying a wide range of processes from convection in lakes to stratified flows in straits and estuaries, turbulence and mixing, wave breaking, upper ocean circulation, and high-frequency acoustical propagation. A particular focus in recent years has been the application of novel acoustic techniques to ocean measurement, and he presently runs a small graduate program in acoustical oceanography through the University of Victoria, BC, Canada.
