Charles Kaufman was born in Brooklyn, NY, and attended the New York City public schools. He received the B.S. degree from the University of Wisconsin in 1956 and the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from Penn State University, University Park, PA, in 1959 and 1963, respectively.Since 1964 he has been a Member of the Faculty of the Physics Department of the University of Rhode Island, Kingston.
