George Botseas was born in New Bedford, MA, on October 3, 1935. He received the B.S. degree in electrical engineering from Southeastern Massachusetts University, New Bedford, in 1958. In 1976 he completed all classroom requirements for the M.S. degree in computer science at the University of Rhode Island in Kingston.He served on active duty as an Officer in the U.S. Navy from 1958 through 1966. He worked at the Electric Boat Company in Groton, CT, as a Senior Engineer from 1966 to 1968. Since 1968 he has been at the Naval Underwater Systems Center in New London, CT, as an Electronics Engineer, where he is developing computer models for predicting underwater acoustic propagation loss. During his career he has acquired extensive experience in real-time data acquisition and processing aboard ships at sea and has participated in Operation Deep Freeze in the Antarctica and in the PARKA I, PARKA II, and JOAST experiments in the Pacific and Mediterranean.
Mr. Botseas was inducted into the national honor society, Phi Kappa Phi, while attending the University of Rhode Island. He is also a member of the United States Naval Reserve.
