Kenneth A. Johnson was born in Leeds, England, on November 28, 1967. He graduated with the B.E. and M.E. degrees in electrical and electronic engineering in 1991 and 1992, respectively, from the University of Canterbury, Christchurch, New Zealand.

Since 1992, he has been a Project Engineer at the University of Canterbury's simulation laboratory, where he has been involved in the development and support of a virtual reality flight simulator. From 1992 to 1994, he worked on simulation and analysis of fly-by-wire schemes for NASA. Since 1994, he has been involved in the development of a virtual conferencing system based on specialized sound for Telecom New Zealand.
