Leif Toudal Pedersen received the M.Sc. degree in electrical engineering from the Technical University of Denmark (TUD) in 1982 with a thesis on digital image processing of data from the TUD microwave radiometer.

Since then he has worked as a Research Scientist at Electromagnetics Institute TUD, mainly investigating passive microwave signatures of snow and ice in and around Greenland.
