Anthony J. Healey (M'94) received the undergraduate degree from Kings College, London University, U.K., and the Ph.D. degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Sheffield, U.K., in 1996.
His specialty is in dynamic systems and control He has taught at the Pennsylvania State University, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and the University of Texas at Austin. For five years, he worked with Brown and Root, Inc., Houston, TX, and has been Chairman of the Mechanical Engineering Department at the Naval Postgraduate School, Monterey, CA, from 1982 to 1992. He is currently a Professor in the Mechanical Engineering Department and Director of the Center for AUV Research, with the aims of developing AUG technology for naval applications of AUV's. He is responsible for the development of the Pheonix Autonomous Vehicle and for the graduation of numerous Master's and Ph.D. students, many working on AUV-related topics. He has authored over 120 papers and publications.
Prof. Healey is a member of the IEEE Oceanic Engineering Society and has been involved in the organization of the IEEE AUV series of conferences, Office of Naval Research workshops on Fault Detection, and Modeling and Simulation for Multi Robot Systems in Mine Countermeasures. he is a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME). He is listed in Who's Who in Engineering and was awarded a Dedicated Service Award by the ASME in 1994.
