Kenneth E. Steele received the B.S. degree in engineering physics in 1954 and the M.S. degree in physics in 1957 from the Alabama Polytechnic Institute, Auburn, Alabama.

He was an instructor of physics at Auburn University from 1959 to 1961 and was later employed as an operations research analyst for several years. Since 1973 he has served the National Data Buoy Center (NDBC) as manager of the Wave Measurement Systems Development Program. In this role he has directed all NDBC wave measurement efforts. Results of his work have been presented in several technical papers and in the proceedings of numerous professional meetings.

Mr. Steele is a member of the Marine Technology Society.
